Compare the PFD Sandal M's and Web Toe on grip, fit, and river use. See which Astral water sandal or tow strap belongs in your kit.
Quick answer
The PFD Sandal M's is the only actual sandal here: a Zero Drop, sticky-soled shoe for canoeing, kayaking, rafting, SUP, and multisport wear. The Web Toe is not footwear at all; it is a UHMPE tow strap with a locking carabiner that packs into a rescue vest pocket. If you need a river sandal, choose the PFD Sandal M's. If you need a tow system, choose the Web Toe.
What each product actually is
The names invite confusion, so start with the catalog facts. The PFD Sandal M's is an all-terrain sandal from Astral built for water sports and everyday wear, with a stickiest sole for wet surfaces and a Zero Drop design. The Web Toe is a UHMPE tow strap with a locking carabiner, designed to pack into the side pocket of a rescue vest so it stays accessible without dangling where it could catch on logs. One goes on your foot; the other goes in your rescue kit. Comparing them as footwear is a category error.
Grip and on-foot performance
Only the PFD Sandal M's has on-foot performance to judge. Its stickiest sole is the supplied fact that matters most for wet rock, boat ramps, and slick canoe bottoms, and the Zero Drop design promotes natural foot positioning for comfort during extended wear. That combination suits paddlers who are in and out of the boat all day. The Web Toe has no sole, no fit, and no footbed, so there is nothing to compare on grip. If water sandal grip comparison is your search, the PFD Sandal M's is the only side of this pair that answers it.
River wear and rescue-vest carry
For river wear, the PFD Sandal M's covers the walking and wading side: it is listed for canoeing, kayaking, rafting, SUP, and multisport activities. The Web Toe covers the safety side. Its UHMPE construction and locking carabiner make it a tow strap you stow in a rescue vest side pocket, which keeps it reachable without the snag risk of a loose line. Neither replaces the other, and a paddler heading onto moving water may reasonably carry both.
Trade-offs to weigh
- Footwear vs. rescue hardware: The PFD Sandal M's is worn; the Web Toe is carried in a rescue vest pocket. They solve different problems and are not interchangeable. Buy the sandal for your feet, the Web Toe for your safety kit.
- Wet grip vs. packability: The PFD Sandal M's earns its place with a stickiest sole for wet surfaces. The Web Toe earns its place by packing small into a side pocket instead of hanging loose. Judge each on its own job, not on a shared spec sheet.
- Everyday vs. dedicated use: The PFD Sandal M's is described for water sports and everyday wear. The Web Toe is a dedicated tow strap, not a daily accessory. If you want one purchase to cover camp and town, the sandal is the broader pick.
