O-Ring Carabiner: A Versatile Accessory for Paddling

Quick answer

The Astral O-Ring works as a lightweight carabiner for kayaking, letting you clip gear, attach accessories, or serve as a key chain without adding bulk.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use the Astral O-Ring as a carabiner for kayaking?

Yes. The O-Ring's compact ring shape works like a carabiner to clip items such as a rescue knife, whistle, or car keys to your PFD or deck lines. Its lightweight design makes it ideal for quick attachment without adding weight.

How do I attach the O-Ring to my gear?

Thread the O-Ring through a loop or D-ring on your PFD, then clip your accessory through the same ring. Alternatively, use it as a key chain by looping it through a keyhole and securing the key with the ring's tension. Test the attachment before heading out to ensure it holds under movement.

Is the O-Ring strong enough for heavy gear?

The O-Ring is designed for small accessories, not heavy loads like a throw bag or towline. Use it for items under a few ounces, such as a whistle, carabiner-style knife, or keys. For heavier gear, choose a dedicated carabiner with a higher weight rating. Match the accessory to the load—O-Ring for lightweight items, a proper carabiner for heavier ones.
